FALL SEASON STARTS WITH OCT. MEETING


Mark your Calender.   October 25, Tuesday 
  Common Threads starts again after the summer break. 
 We meet at 4:30 at the VAC for about 1 1/2 hours.  Lots of fun activities have been planned for all fiber enthusiasts.  Quilting, dyeing, felting, selling, sewing, shows, weaving..... We do it all!  We also love fiber enthusiasts who just love to touch and take classes.  If you want to know what is happening in the area regarding guilds, stores, shows, other fiber-holics you need to be a member of Common Threads!!!  Contact commonthreads11@gmail.com.  Watch for your meeting agenda and detailed notes if you can't make this meeting!

Fall Student-Teacher September Show at the VAC

The Fall Student-Teacher Show receives Friday, September 2 from 9am – Noon.

If you are a current student or have taken a class between Sept. 2010 – Sept. 2011, you are encouraged to participate.
If you have never entered a VAC show before, this is a great opportunity to start and learn about the process.

Updates on Connie, Christina and Clora with Knit Wit Studios


You can see the latest  Knit Wit Yarn adventure at the Artisans Atelier in downtown Punta Gorda.
The Atelier will be an artistic outlet for all of the fiber-holics in our area.   It will be on a small scale, with beautiful and funky yarns.

Connie Shanahan, Christina Coogan and Clora Hamilton are ready to help you select the yarns for your next project.

Patricia Turner joins the Sea Grape Gallery family of Artists


SEA GRAPE GALLERY WELCOMES NEW MEMBER ARTIST

            Sea Grape Gallery is pleased to announce and welcome Patricia Anderson Turner as a new member to their family of artists.

            Patricia dye paints natural fibers, mostly silks and bamboo, to create her textile paintings and sculptures. Her fiber art has been described as exploding with vibrancy, color, and the power of imagery.  Her subjects include landscapes, abstracts, social commentary, and whimsy.  Patricia’s artwork can be either framed or free standing and range in size from small transparent silk paintings and collages to large wall hangings.

             Patricia’s fiber art has been juried into many State-wide, National and International exhibits.  In March, 2011, she won First Place in the very prestigious “Silk Roads Meet Verona” Exhibit in Verona, Italy. She also won First Place Award at Art Center Sarasota and Blue Ribbons for the past two years at Mancuso Show Management’s World of Quilt Show in West Palm Beach.  Her work has traveled in exhibitions all over the country and has been published in National and International magazines. Patricia is well known in our local community as well as she has won many awards at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda and has exhibited at several locations through the Arts & Humanities Art in Public Places program.

              Sea Grape Gallery is located at 113 W. Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda and can be reached at 941-575-1718.  The Gallery’s hours are Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is open until 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month for Gallery Walk.  Sea Grape will be closed on Mondays during the months of August and September.
